The grandmother spider shadowbox is made primarily with cut paper (antique music paper, antique print, Japanese paper) and antique lace. Waterspider is an important figure in Cherokee traditional stories. The shadowbox is made of wood. This piece is a miniature.
Andrea Mina Savar is an award-winning artist in the mediums of jewelry, beadwork, painting/illustration, fiction writing and textile art. Inspired by the natural world; leaves, flowers and creatures of all kinds tend to wiggle their way into her art. She is a citizen of The Cherokee Nation and a certified TERO artist.
Her watercolor paintings are a combination of dreamscapes, traditional stories and musings about life. The natural world is a large part of her inspiration as she spends time in the PNW water waters and forests as often as possible with her family. She is the co-owner of The Curious Nest.
